Real FAIRIES Caught on Camera? | The Cottingley Fairies at the Book Fair
Do you believe in [Cottingley] Fairies? This year at the NYIABF I saw some original prints of these famous fairy photographs taken in Cottingley, England between 1917-1920. The history of the Cottingley Fairies is really interesting, with a legacy lasting over 60 years! It's a charming hoax, with an extra bit of magic added (watch the end of the video to see what I mean).

Epic Systems is a medical software company based in Verona, Wisconsin. You can take guided tours of their fantastical, themed campus. We were there for hours and only saw two sections (Storybook campus and Wizards Academy campus). I'd never seen an office like this before, it felt like a theme park in a way. I wonder what it's like to actually work there! . Support the channel on Patreon: www.p...

WEIRD things to do in URUGUAY | I swam with sea lions
Просмотров 878Год назад
I filmed some interesting and unusual things that I did in Uruguay during the week I spent there. Most of the time was spent in the capital Montevideo, but I did explore some neighboring areas, including Punta del Este where I swam with sea lions. It was an interesting experience, definitely one I'll remember for the rest of my life. (And I took a nice hot shower when I got back to the hotel.) ...

The NATIVES were WAY TOO kind!!!!
Awesome job and you are a delight to listen too. Your also pretty and kind hearted. Thank for putting all this together.
I think about her a lot. Looking at Jane's facial reconstruction, she could have been any girl I went to school with. It just makes me wonder...what was her name? Was she quiet or restless or brave or did she cling to her dreams of a better life? I know I'll never know and it drives me nuts.
Imagine how Benedict Arnold must have felt. After all he did and sacrificed for the American cause being unappreciated. And then the British officer, the man who literally carried the plans to West Point that could have drastically changed the war, winning the hearts and respects of the American army based just off his conduct. That had to have stung for Arnold.
My son recently stayed in a haunted hotel in Naples, N.Y. He said there were yellow and blue orbs floating around in his room, and a vase would appear and disappear on top of a dresser.
Arnold was also the best battlefield general Washington had in the early part of the war, and won the critical Second Battle of Saratoga in 1777, which convinced the French to throw their full weight behind the American cause. And he was wounded _again_ in the same battered leg that had been wounded before. But by 1780, he was tired of the bloodletting and frustrated by the American rejection of peace terms offered by the British. He was still a dislikable man, but he did want an end to the war.
how do they keep robert the doll clean
So neat!! Where did you send the film to have them developed?
This is like the big foot of the early days 😅 great video 👍
Only 18 year after George Washington passed, thats a old cool pice of history right there 👍
I don’t believe in ghosts but I do believe in demons!!!
Thank you for this video ! Never knew this was in South East Wisconsin, within driving distance of Milwaukee, where we live. We’ll definitely be visiting this great place soon ! 😊
I hope you have a wonderful time!!

Fake history
When I was a kid, just after we migrated to Australia, my Mum gave me her Ilford camera that used 120 roll film. I got 12 shots per roll. I always did my best to load in subdued light (and hold roll tightly so no light can leak in past the spool ends).
so uh... who has to die before the owners reveal that the 28k price tag was also a practical joke??
Lol
Nooooo
Lol
Opsss
Haha
Nooooooo
I grew up near there.
Back then it was the Republic of the United States. that Statue-replica that was originally 64 foot statue has a lot of meaning, if you understand history. thank you for the video <3
That building isn’t affiliated with the spiritualist camp mediums! That may be why it wasn’t an accurate representation

This is simply wonderful. I like that they didn’t need experimentation they just knew what to do at such a young age. True photographers.
I agree! I'm amazed they were able to capture such amazing photographs, on a borrowed camera, and at such a young age! They really had a gift.
Fairies wear boots, don't they?
Interesting video! Did you make any purchases at the fair?
Thank you! And no, not this year :( ...
I met a fairy in Iceland, she was working at the Post Office of Siglufjordur.
Neat! I'm glad people still have access to at least prints of them still and they weren't entirely lost to time or a private collection. I choose to believe those girls were real life Newt Scamanders!
Was this the first real hoax? 🤔 You should try to see if you can recreate these images with your box camera!
Ha, that's a very cool idea! And, I just googled it--the first hoax photograph was made in 1840...and now I'm down a new rabbit hole!
Having attended 4th grade in1960s Va , Jamestown was a big deal in Va history teaching. We got to go on a field trip there and Williamsburg....geeat learning experience
Didn't they make a spooky movie about the Cottingley Fairies? (edit: that clip from The Antiques Roadshow is great. I think the appraiser thought they were copies at first because he did a little startle when she told him she was.)
We're miss you on your other forgotten channel also
She has another channel?
This is so cute 😅
More fun facts about the Cottingley Fairies: 1. While the girls themselves did not doctor any photos, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's associate, Edward Gardner of the Theosophical Society, asked photography expert Harold Snelling to "enhance" the glass plate negatives to better show the fairies and make them stand out in the image. So, while the negatives were confirmed to be "genuine," they were still "improved" for better clarity. The enhancement makes it look almost like the fairies themselves are glowing, which added to the idea that they were real. 2. You may wonder why anybody believed that these were real photos, when they look very clearly faked to us today. Well, people DID doubt them very much. But at the same time, this was the early days of amateur photography and many people then were not as immediately skeptical of photographic evidence as we are now. And, the fact that these photographs were analyzed by experts and nobody could say for *certain* whether they were faked, also lent itself to the idea that mere children did not have the capacity to create such a complex fakery that would fool even the best in the field. 3. Also, self-proclaimed psychics/clairvoyants visited Cottingley themselves to look for these ethereal creatures. And THEY TOO reported seeing fairies, gnomes, etc! So that lent extra credence to it all. 4. Watch Frances and Elsie talk about the Cottingley Fairies in this program from the '80s. (Segment begins at 8:39) ruclips.net/video/iP-R9nhm7Ls/видео.html 5. Watch Frances' daughter show the photographs on Antiques Roadshow: ruclips.net/video/8WX1BhKxSYQ/видео.html 6. How about the L platform the original one built into Jackson Park how about all the lagoons that existed for the gondola ride from the L platform to what is now the museum of science industry down the midway 55th St.? Why don’t you talk about what actually exist at this point, and some of the things that existed in conjunction with the worlds fair
Why are you tell the truth about history here? What happened to the Japanese garden? What do you think happened to it World War II the Japanese were our enemies? We took them out all the gardens.
My ancestor Stephen Hokins arrived as relief in the Sea Venture after it shipwrecked in Bremuda. He was at John Roelf and Pocahontas wedding. He would return to England for a few years and then in 1620 bring his wife and children over on the Mayflower, his son Oceanus was born at sea. Of everyone who came in the Mayflower he was tge only person who had already been to the New World and knew how to handle Native American relationships. I'm a direct descendant through his son Giles Hopkins.
I just picked one up for a fiver at a Boot Fair! I’m excited to use it. I can’t believe it was (one of) the first ever commercially available camera. Great video :)
The janitor at the Vortex Coffee Shop didn't have any readings scheduled, so he gave her a reading between toilet scrubs. "You have a long trip planned, oh, I mean; you have a long dump in your future. If I were you, I would stock up on toilet paper and Nag Champa incense ." She wasn't impressed, but the coffee was causing a gurgle.
